Thai Vegan Kitchen – Chef Nandu Asrani

Have you ever had Thai Vegan food in India? Better yet for the Jains out there or for anyone whose body cannot tolerate garlic or onion (yes this is actually an issue for some of us) have you been able to eat Thai Vegan Jain food in India? I would dare to say that you probably have not had Thai Vegan/ Thai vegan Jain food. This post will help you get tasty Thai Vegan food in the heart of Bengaluru.

India is heaven for foodies both vegetarian and non-vegetarian alike. It is now becoming heaven for Vegans. My niece Anjali and her husband invited me to this quaint little restaurant tucked away in a quiet neighborhood of Frazer town, Bangalore. One of a kind – The Thai Vegan restaurant. You have to preorder your meals 3 hours before arriving.

Nandi Asrani founded the Thai Vegan Kitchen. He prides himself on providing compassionate food. A non-vegetarian turned vegetarian about 20 years ago, Mr.Asrani born and raised in the Sindhi community has since gone on to become Vegan. He has been a vegan now for about 18 years. He fell in love with cooking when on a holiday trip to Bangkok.

The food he and his staff had prepared was very flavorful. His kitchen team consists of female domestic cooks.

He had curated non-onion, non-garlic Thai food for my mother and me the two Jains in the group. We ordered Fresh rice paper salad spring rolls with peanut sauce, Stir-fried glass noodles with veggies and tofu, Pineapple fried rice, and Massaman curry with Jasmine rice (the restaurant could not make this non-onion, non-garlic).

He travels to Thailand often to bring back raw materials for his kitchen. COVID and the tumultuous time it brought with it caused a downturn in Mr.Asrani’s livelihood in the marketing world and destiny led him to start the Thai Vegan Kitchen. Thank you Mr.Asrani for your time and the food you cooked for my family.

Being Vegan is something one reflects in life not just in the food one eats, but in how one lives every day. A menu book in chalk tells the story of sustainable living. Here is an image of the Menu.

  1. Excellent write up. I’m not a vegan but a vegetarian and would love to try the vegetarian Thai food.
